Cleaning Mattresses

Common Mistakes We Make When Cleaning Mattresses

Having the best vacuum won’t solve all of your cleaning worries. If you don’t know what you’re doing, you can make common mistakes when cleaning mattresses that damage your home surfaces and furniture.

One of the most difficult pieces of furniture to clean properly, is a mattress, which you spend almost a third of your life sleeping on! It’s easy to overlook all of the dust and dirt that can build up in your bed every night if you’re not disciplined about cleaning it regularly. This blog will share some common mistakes that many people make when cleaning their mattresses. Follow these steps to avoid damaging the piece of furniture that you spend so much valuable time on.

Don’t Get it Wet!

Common sense might say that you have to use water for some mattress cleaning jobs. But that is not actually the best strategy. In fact, if you put soap and a damp cloth onto your mattress, you can permanently damage the upholstery and trigger mold and mildew growth. If it doesn’t dry properly, you could cause illness and extremely unpleasant odors.

Beating is a No-No!

You may think you are getting a deep clean by beating the dirt out of your mattress, but the truth is that you are just spreading the dirt further around your sacred space. Be smart about getting the dirt out of mattresses by using the right tools and techniques. Don’t redistribute dust and particles throughout your bedroom when you can easily deep clean this crucial piece of furniture with the proper equipment.

Don’t Put a Vacuum Head From The Floor on Your Mattress!

If you do this, even the best vacuum will become your worst enemy. Unless you have an attachment that is designed and kept exclusively for sensitive surfaces like your mattress, it is best not to use a vacuum that is also being used on carpets and other dirty surfaces.

Other Common Mistakes to Remember When Washing Bedding

It’s a Mistake to Make Your Bed Right After You Wake Up!

Give at least 30 minutes for the temperature to cool down between the sheets to minimize dead skin, germs, and other particles from setting deep into your bedding.

Not Washing Your Pillow Cases Regularly is a Mistake!

Don’t wait until you wash your comforter to wash your pillowcases. Your face and hair put a tremendous amount of oil and dirt on your pillows. Keep your skin and lungs health and fresh by constantly removing these potential irritants.

Inner Cushion Pads, Covers, And Toppers Need Frequent Cleaning!

A lot of people will neglect these parts of their bedding, but doing so is actually a huge mistake. These parts can collect particles just as easily as other parts of your furniture. Stay on top of it to make sure you’re not sleeping on top of dirt and dust.

Oh My Sirena!

I’ve never used a canister vacuum so that is taking a little getting used to. It’s kind of funny; my husband pointed out I don’t call it the vacuum or a sweeper. I call it “my Sirena”. It works great, I was surprised how much pet hair it picked up my first use. The deodorizer and essential oils I will definitely order more of when these run out. My old vacuum seems like a toy in comparison of how much more effective my Sirena is. It’s only been a couple of weeks but as of right now I am very happy with this purchase. Will write another review in December when I’ve had it a while. The extra hose and attachments I haven’t really figured out a good way to store it for accessibility and convenience. Any suggestions?

Best vacuum I've encountered in 16 years

Sixteen years ago I bought an Ocean Blue water filtered vacuum. It was by far the best vacuum I had ever owned, but it's wearing out now and they quit making them. I just got a new Sirena and it has all the features of the Ocean Blue plus a few improvements. If you know anything about water filtration vacs, I don't need to tell you how good they are. This one is the best I've encountered in a long time.
