Longevity of Your Carpets

Simple Cleaning Tips to Increase the Longevity of Your Carpets With a Vacuum Cleaner

If you want to maximize the longevity of your carpets, you need to put in the work to take care of it proactively. One of the best ways to do it is using a quality vacuum cleaner for regular clean ups. Using said device helps to keep your carpet’s surface and interior free of debris and odors.

Maintenance is key to avoiding the kind of heavy wear and buildup that will do permanent damage to the fibers that make up your carpet. If you are looking to maximize the life of your carpet, here are some simple cleaning tips that you can implement with a vacuum cleaner, including tips from the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI).

Longevity of Your Carpets

Vacuum Regularly

A good rule of thumb for vacuuming is to perform it weekly if you have no pets. If you do have pets, you should vacuum every other day.

You should obviously increase vacuuming in high-traffic areas and create a vacuuming schedule that you can commit to. It’s also important to find a high quality vacuum that is certified to be safe and effective at cleaning dirt, hair, dust, and odors.

Consistency is key in keeping any space clean. And, the carpets that you walk on are one of the best examples of how particles can build up over time.

Clean Spots And Spills Fast

It’s smart to have healthy cleaning products and simple tools like cleaning sprays, brooms, mops, and paper towels. Even towels can be used to handle spills in a hurry. If you have a water vacuum cleaner that can clean any surface, you will have an advantage. That is because this type of vacuum cleaner is able to clean said spills easily.

To maintain the life of your carpet, use SOA-certified solutions or water-based products that will not damage the carpet or transfer chemicals to other surfaces and the air. The faster you can respond to a spill, the better success you will have at removing it from the fibers of your carpet without heavy chemical intervention.

Professional Deep Cleaning

Every 12 to 18 months, it is wise to hire professional cleaning services or rent professional quality tools. They can remove the deeply embedded dirt and grime that most vacuum cleaners cannot reach.

For professional cleaning services, SOA-certified cleaners are often recommended or required by the manufacturer to be up to cleaning and safety standards.

Stop Dirt From The Door

Simple tools like floor mats and house rules that require everyone to remove their shoes can change the overall air and carpet quality in your home by reducing airborne dust particles. Other tools like air filters are also a great addition to fight dirt, odors and dust particles. Be proactive about fighting dirt to stop a problem before it can start.

Oh My Sirena!

I’ve never used a canister vacuum so that is taking a little getting used to. It’s kind of funny; my husband pointed out I don’t call it the vacuum or a sweeper. I call it “my Sirena”. It works great, I was surprised how much pet hair it picked up my first use. The deodorizer and essential oils I will definitely order more of when these run out. My old vacuum seems like a toy in comparison of how much more effective my Sirena is. It’s only been a couple of weeks but as of right now I am very happy with this purchase. Will write another review in December when I’ve had it a while. The extra hose and attachments I haven’t really figured out a good way to store it for accessibility and convenience. Any suggestions?

Best vacuum I've encountered in 16 years

Sixteen years ago I bought an Ocean Blue water filtered vacuum. It was by far the best vacuum I had ever owned, but it's wearing out now and they quit making them. I just got a new Sirena and it has all the features of the Ocean Blue plus a few improvements. If you know anything about water filtration vacs, I don't need to tell you how good they are. This one is the best I've encountered in a long time.
