Are You Making These 6 Cleaning Mistakes?

There are plenty of cleaning mistakes that homeowners make on a daily basis. While these may range in severity, trying to avoid them altogether will result in a house that is clean and free from bacteria and other forms of dirt and grime. In fact, hard floor vacuum can be very helpful. Follow these tips to create a cleaner, healthier, and more enjoyable home environment.

1. Not Using a Pet Hair Vacuum

A pet hair vacuum is essential when someone has pets roaming about the house. While pets are adorable roommates to have, the large majority of them produce excess hair and dander. By using a pet hair vacuum that is designed to tackle these problems, you can better manage the allergic symptoms that they may cause.

2. Trying to Rub Stains Out of Carpet

One of the most egregious mistakes one can make is trying to rub stains out of the carpet. Using a back and forth wiping motion only pushes the stain further into the carpet. By spraying the stain with a stain remover, letting it sit, and later blotting the dampened area with a towel, you will be gently removing the stain rather than shoving it farther in.

3. Using the Same Cleaning Rag Everywhere

Rags are helpful tools as they can seemingly clean nearly every surface you can think of. For this reason, people commonly choose to use the same rag on a variety of surfaces in the same cleaning session. This can easily spread grime and bacteria to unwanted areas. For example, cleaning the coffee pot handle then moving to the kitchen counter with the same rag can spread germs and bacteria collected from the hands of numerous family members to the cooking and eating space in a matter of seconds.

4. Using a Hard Floor Vacuum on Rugs and Carpet

Hard floor vacuums are helpful for hardwood and linoleum, but not so much for carpet. Carpets and hard floors require different tools and attachments to be properly cleaned. Some vacuums offer tools for both, such as the Sirena water vacuum.

5. Not Cleaning Out Your Vacuum Filter

Vacuum cleaners are meant to be cleaned out regularly. All vacuums have some sort of filter that collects the dirt and dust they pick up. With the recent introduction of water vacuums, this has never been easier. Water vacuums feature a water basin that simply needs to be poured out, rinsed, and refilled when required – no need to beat an air filter against the trash can or replace an icky bag.

6. Cleaning From the Ground Up With Hard Floor Vacuum

The final common mistake is starting from the ground and cleaning up. As you clean higher surfaces, you knock down particles and dust that eventually settle on the ground. Cleaning the top first ensures that you do not ruin your progress by knocking down dirt onto the newly cleaned floor.

Oh My Sirena!

I’ve never used a canister vacuum so that is taking a little getting used to. It’s kind of funny; my husband pointed out I don’t call it the vacuum or a sweeper. I call it “my Sirena”. It works great, I was surprised how much pet hair it picked up my first use. The deodorizer and essential oils I will definitely order more of when these run out. My old vacuum seems like a toy in comparison of how much more effective my Sirena is. It’s only been a couple of weeks but as of right now I am very happy with this purchase. Will write another review in December when I’ve had it a while. The extra hose and attachments I haven’t really figured out a good way to store it for accessibility and convenience. Any suggestions?

Best vacuum I've encountered in 16 years

Sixteen years ago I bought an Ocean Blue water filtered vacuum. It was by far the best vacuum I had ever owned, but it's wearing out now and they quit making them. I just got a new Sirena and it has all the features of the Ocean Blue plus a few improvements. If you know anything about water filtration vacs, I don't need to tell you how good they are. This one is the best I've encountered in a long time.
