How to Keep Your Home Clean During Allergy Season

Housekeeping during allergy season can be a full-time job if you don’t have the right help on hand. Allergy season veterans who have survived the dry eyes, itchy throats, sneezing, coughing, and fatigue know how important it is to stay ahead of the seasonal curve. To prepare you for the upcoming allergy seasons, this blog will lead you through the easiest ways to keep your home clean during allergy seasons, whether you have serious allergies, pets that can make it worse, or just want to make your home as comfortable as possible for guests.

Seasonal Cleaning Schedules

Not all seasons are created equal. Winter and summer show us the extremes of hot and cold temperatures. But fall and spring accumulate other extremes. As spring and fall begin, it is wise to do a deep cleaning of your home when the allergy seasons ramp up. The first reason for these deep seasonal cleanings is to capture any of the dander, pollen, dust, and dirt that has built up in your home throughout the summer or winter extremities. The second is to adjust to new traffic patterns in your home. Don’t forget the shedding schedule of pets, which usually ramps up before and after the summer and winter highs and lows. When it’s time to be on high alert, keep cleaning routines at a maximum to adjust to the dramatic influx of irritants.

Find A Vacuum For Allergies

Allergy sufferers must be vigilant about capturing irritants before they can enter their airflow. With that in mind, they will quickly find that vacuums are just like seasons in their extremes. A dry conventional vacuum can be good for houses that don’t require frequent cleanings that will wear down the filter and bag, causing frequent replacements. Water vacuums are preferred by experienced allergy sufferers and pet owners. That is because of how frequently you can use them without wasting money and time on replacement filters and bags. The perfect vacuum for allergies will also be highly efficient at de-polluting and deodorizing the air naturally. Because they have water filters instead of bags, you will save time and money after frequent use during allergy season.

Set House Rules

Be proactive about setting a standard of cleanliness and awareness in your home to keep from turning yourself into a full-time cleaning service. Shoes-off will keep dirt and outdoor irritants from entering your carpets, furniture surfaces, and air supply. Keeping pets in designated areas will also keep pollutants from spreading uncontrollably. Overall, you are the warden of your space. You can stay ahead of the seasonal flow of fur, pollen, and dust by setting a schedule, setting boundaries. And, of course, by getting a great vacuum for allergies.

Oh My Sirena!

I’ve never used a canister vacuum so that is taking a little getting used to. It’s kind of funny; my husband pointed out I don’t call it the vacuum or a sweeper. I call it “my Sirena”. It works great, I was surprised how much pet hair it picked up my first use. The deodorizer and essential oils I will definitely order more of when these run out. My old vacuum seems like a toy in comparison of how much more effective my Sirena is. It’s only been a couple of weeks but as of right now I am very happy with this purchase. Will write another review in December when I’ve had it a while. The extra hose and attachments I haven’t really figured out a good way to store it for accessibility and convenience. Any suggestions?

Best vacuum I've encountered in 16 years

Sixteen years ago I bought an Ocean Blue water filtered vacuum. It was by far the best vacuum I had ever owned, but it's wearing out now and they quit making them. I just got a new Sirena and it has all the features of the Ocean Blue plus a few improvements. If you know anything about water filtration vacs, I don't need to tell you how good they are. This one is the best I've encountered in a long time.
