Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease that affects more than one in twelve children and can lead to serious health complications. In this blog post, we will share five cleaning tips for parents of children with asthma so you know how to clean your home effectively.

1) Eliminate Dust Mites

Microscopic dust mites are one of the biggest triggers for asthma attacks in children because they thrive in warm, humid environments, like a child’s bedroom. Also, due to the amount of time children spend sleeping, the chances of getting an asthma attack from dust mites increase. Children with asthma can often breathe in direct contact with dust mites for the majority of their day, including while in bed or on the couch. Eliminating these dust mites is very important, and can only be done with good, quality cleaning.

2) Purify Your Indoor Air

When the air in your home is not clean, children with asthma run a much higher risk of an adverse reaction. Get an air purifier to help remove any allergens or other irritants in the air that may be causing issues. One of the best cleaning tips for parents is to invest in a high-quality air purifier like the Sirena Twister. This simple, yet powerful device can eliminate most of the harmful particles in the air, including dust mites, pollen, pet dander, and smoke.

3) Disinfect Spaces Thoroughly

Surface cleaning in spaces where children with asthma play and rest simply doesn’t cut it. Make sure to thoroughly disinfect your home with products that sanitize and kill harmful germs completely. Look for disinfectant products that are EPA-registered, safe to use on all surfaces, and can kill 99.99% of germs, including MRSA and Norovirus. By killing these germs and particles, the chances of triggering an asthma attack drop dramatically in your home.

4) Circulate Your Air

One of the simplest cleaning tips for parents of children with asthma is to circulate your indoor air better. Of course, the outdoor allergens affect your child, this is not the case. However, good air circulation can help remove stale air, powerful smells from cleaning products, and other particles that can aggravate asthma. You can circulate your air better by using fans in all the rooms of your house, opening windows whenever possible, or running an air purifier.

5) Use a Water Vacuum on Everything

That’s right, it’s time to say goodbye to your traditional bag-filtered vacuum cleaner. Instead, opt for a high-quality water vacuum from Sirena and notice the difference on day one. A water vacuum cleans better because it uses a more efficient and hygienic form of filtering. There’s less mess when cleaning, quicker removal of dirt and grime, and a deeper clean every time. All the dirt, debris, and other unwanted particles get trapped in the water in the basin of the vacuum so they cannot escape back into the air, unlike with other vacuums. You’ll notice the difference in the air quality, particularly if you have children with asthma.

Oh My Sirena!

I’ve never used a canister vacuum so that is taking a little getting used to. It’s kind of funny; my husband pointed out I don’t call it the vacuum or a sweeper. I call it “my Sirena”. It works great, I was surprised how much pet hair it picked up my first use. The deodorizer and essential oils I will definitely order more of when these run out. My old vacuum seems like a toy in comparison of how much more effective my Sirena is. It’s only been a couple of weeks but as of right now I am very happy with this purchase. Will write another review in December when I’ve had it a while. The extra hose and attachments I haven’t really figured out a good way to store it for accessibility and convenience. Any suggestions?

Best vacuum I've encountered in 16 years

Sixteen years ago I bought an Ocean Blue water filtered vacuum. It was by far the best vacuum I had ever owned, but it's wearing out now and they quit making them. I just got a new Sirena and it has all the features of the Ocean Blue plus a few improvements. If you know anything about water filtration vacs, I don't need to tell you how good they are. This one is the best I've encountered in a long time.
